Invited by the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines (MCNP) and the International School of Asia and the Pacific (ISAP), the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 2, through its Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education Unit (UniFAST Unit), oriented 409 new student grantees under the Tertiary Education Subsidy’s (TES) for the Academic Year 2022-2023 last Monday, 5 February 2024.

Serving as the resource speakers, Ms. Leah Sandra M. Perez, Project Technical Staff III and the region’s UniFAST Lead Regional Coordinator, and Ms. Rejoice D. Tan, Project Technical Staff II, oriented the student-grantees on the brief background of the TES program, the benefits they enjoy as recipients, the process flow, and the grounds for termination and responsibilities that they must observe. MCNP and ISAP’s administration, led by their OIC-President, Mr. Christian R. Guzman, facilitated the orientation.

Covered under the Republic Act No. 10931 otherwise known as the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act,” TES is a grant-in-aid program that supports at least the partial cost of tertiary education, inclusive of education related expenses, of qualified undergraduate students enrolled in CHED-recognized programs offered by State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

TES follows a prioritization scheme in the selection of beneficiaries, provides a full academic year-grant amounting to PhP20,000.00 or PhP10,000.00 per academic term, and affords additional benefits to student-grantees who are registered PWDs and takers of Licensure Examinations.
