Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office II (CHEDRO II) and Cagayan State University (CSU) formalized their partnership in a Collaborative Meeting on Internationalization (IZN) Convergence, held on February 24, 2025, at CSU – Carig Campus. This collaboration aims to bolster the internationalization efforts of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Region II, paving the way for improved global recognition and university rankings.

The collaboration is anchored on CHEDRO II’s commitment to aligning HEIs with the Internationalization Framework and ensuring compliance with Global Educational Standards. CSU, recognized for its growing expertise in global university ranking systems, will play a pivotal role in sharing insights and best practices to enhance the region’s standing in international higher education.

The meeting provided a platform for key discussions and engagements focusing on: alignment with CHED’s Internationalization Framework, ensuring that HEIs in Region II adhere to national policies that promote global competitiveness; strengthening institutional policies, faculty credentials, and curriculum development to meet international benchmarks; expanding opportunities for cross-border education, scholarships, and research collaborations; positioning Region II as a hub for globally competitive graduates and research innovations; and crafting sustainable internationalization initiatives tailored to the unique needs of HEIs in Region II.

As part of this initiative, CSU’s pool of experts on The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, The World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), and the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings will spearhead discussions on: Developing strategies and actionable insights to strengthen HEI performance in international ranking systems, and Integrating Internationalization in the Curriculum – Enhancing academic programs to align with global standards and best practices in internationalization.

CHEDROII Regional Director Julieta M. Paras, Ed.D., CESO III emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, CSU to be the “Golden Grain” of HEIs in Region 02.Meanwhile, CSU OIC-President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez, ASEAN Engr., reaffirmed the university’s commitment looking forward to a fruitful partnership.

This collaborative meeting marks a significant step toward elevating Region II’s higher education landscape, ensuring that HEIs are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of global academic competitiveness. Through this initiative, CHEDRO II and CSU set foot to ink a Memorandum of Agreement on March 3, 2025, aspiring to position Region II as a leader in internationalization and university excellence in the Philippines and beyond.
