Student-grantees of the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) and Tulong Dunong Program – Tertiary Education Subsidy (TDP-TES) programs from the University of Cagayan Valley (UCV) met with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson, Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III, on November 18, 2023 at the Greyhounds Gymnasium, University of Cagayan Valley, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

In attendance during the meeting with student-grantees are the officials and personnel of the UCV, led by University President, Dr. Esther Susan N. Perez-Mari, CHED RO2 officials and staff, led by OIC-Regional Director, Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo, and Atty. Joselito C. Alisuag, CHED MIMAROPA Regional Director.

Select student-grantees of TES and TDP-TES programs shared their testimonies and stories of hope, inspiration, and victory during the meeting. They share the challenges they faced and the ways of overcoming them, which were paved by the programs they availed of.

Chairperson De Vera in his message congratulated the student-grantees and encouraged them to continue to strive for their and their families’ future. He shared his story and humble beginnings as an Iskolar ng Bayan, and imparted that maximizing the present opportunities and manifesting utmost diligence to get out of the vicious cycle of poverty is one’s responsibility.

Atty. Alisuag also inspired the student-grantees by recounting his life-experience as a first-generation college graduate, which denote that he is the first one in his family to complete a college degree. He briefly conveyed his motivational achievements and relatable story from being a poor to a successful servant in the academe and the public sector.

Ceremonial distribution of financial benefits of TES and TDP-TES student-grantees culminated the event. (A. Maguigad Jr.)
