In consonance with the government’s mission of strengthening awareness on fire prevention and control, the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 2 (CHED RO2), in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection Cagayan Provincial Office (BFP Cagayan), conducted an Orientation on Fire Prevention and Control on May 8, 2023.
Fire officers of BFP Cagayan, SFO1 Irish Saguibo, SFO1 Antolin Soriano, FO3 Mark Kenneth Guliman, and FO1 Raffy Fieror, served as resource persons during the orientation. CHED RO2 personnel were introduced on BFP’s functions and services, basics of fire safety, triangle of fire, common causes of fire, classes of fire, fire prevention measures, and fire safety steps and protocols, among others.
FO3 Mark Kenneth Guliman led the discussion on the foregoing topics and underscored the importance of maintaining the quality and quantity of fire safety equipment, and having the proper knowledge that can be applied in times of a fire induced disaster. He also emphasized that right decisions are critical in minimizing the damage to both life and property.
Considering the recent occurrence of earthquakes and series of aftershocks, FO3 Guliman also tackled a brief presentation on the steps and protocols that must be observe during an earthquake.
The orientation concluded with a hands-on demonstration and practice on the basics of fire extinguishment using a fire extinguisher and the method of smothering.
